"Cheers to Buchborn for creating a sound that is easily appealing while still managing to raise the hairs on our back." Tim Wenger/Colorado Music Buzz Magazine

Richie Allen & the Bad Ideas have hit the Denver music scene with a solid "live performance" quality for all to enjoy. Collecting thoughts and musicians with long time friend and established drummer, Jake Williams, the two went to work hand picking local musicians that would fit the band's sound in both personality and musicality. With the intricate styles of bass man Vaughn Smith from The Blunt Instruments, the soulful voice of Miranda Clemenson, and the transcending sounds from cellist Kari Clifton the group was complete. Richie Allen & his band have a sound comparable to a combination of Neil Young, Damien Rice, and Dave Matthews. Aside from the original tunes, the band has covered songs from Cat Stevens to the Notorious B.I.G..
Richie writes endearing songs celebrating the pleasures of the day-to-day, wrapping big ideas in the study of small moments. His voice is soft and gentle as a balladeer yet growls gruff-like when the rocker comes out. Add inspiring lyrics and a variety of acoustic guitar techniques to that commanding voice and you will experience a true taste of today's contemporary sound.
In September of 2014, the song "Last Lullaby" was included among winners of the song contest sponsored by the Colorado Music Business Association. In June of 2012, Richie was a finalist in the songwriting contest hosted by The Philadelphia Songwriter's Project. After a successful 2013 release of his self-titled album, Richie hit the road and has returned to Denver, Colorado to contribute to the vibrant music scene.
Richie has received his Bachelor of Arts in Classical Guitar from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in December of 2008. He has studied under Alex Komodore and attended a variety of Master Classes with David Russell, Jason Veaux, Ricardo Iznaola, and Paul Galbraith.
